E-TV's anchor and producer for the popular breakfast show
Morning Edition has joined a growing number of South Africa's prominent young people who are
making a difference in the country.
Ms Mabe has been has been appointed as a Trustee and Ambassador for the International Centre
for Eye care Education (ICEE). "I am passionate about community development and improving the
life of the people in my country. Aligning my brand with a good social cause is the reason that I
have taken up the challenge that ICEE has handed me", says Mabe.
The International Centre for Eye care Education (ICEE) is a global non-profit, non-government
organisation. In the last ten years ICEE has delivered sustainable eye care services, education and
training programmes in more than 40 countries. ICEE is focused on the elimination of avoidable
blindness by developing solutions with communities in need of eye care thereby improving
opportunities in education, employment and quality of life.
Mr. Reggie Naidoo, the chairperson of the ICEE board of Trustees expressed the boards' great
excitement at Ms Mabe joining ICEE in its Mission to ensure that the lives of all people are
enriched by the wonder of sight. "Sindy Mabe is a well known South African who had expressed an
interest in taking up a social cause. ICEE believes that she could play an important role in the
advocacy work to expand eye care services in South Africa and the rest of Africa", said Mr. Naidoo.
ICEE is currently working with the South African National Department of Health and some
provincial departments in delivering eye care services.
One of Ms Mabe's first tasks will be her role as the ICEE's ambassador at the World Congress on
Refractive Error in Durban in September later this year. The congress will focus on Blindness
