Dr. Naimah Ebrahim Khan is the Head of Department of Optometry at UKZN. She is a mother of two beautiful children and spends a free time with her family – enjoying hikes and exploring our beautiful Province. She also dedicates her time to volunteering with the Institute for Learning and Motivation South Africa (ILM-SA), the Islamic Medical association as well as the eye care wing of the Ramakrishna Society. Dr Khan, obtained a Bachelor of Optometry degree and began her professional career as an optometrist in private practice in Durban. She completed a research masters in Optometry centered around dry eye tests, investigating the condition within the SA population/context. Passionate about research, she followed through with and developed a digital vision screener for primary school learners ins SA earning herself a Doctor of Philosophy (Optometry) degree.  Dr. Naimah Ebrahim Khan is a member of the International association of contact lens educators and has been involved in teaching contact lenses for the past 14 years. She is an active member of the discipline research committee and is currently supervising both postgraduate and undergraduate research projects in addition to lecturing in the undergraduate Optometry program. Her research interests include contact lenses, optometry and technology, dry eye and paediatric vision. She strives to ensure that her research efforts are relevant to the South African context and is impactful to society.
