The South African Optometric Association (SAOA) is proud to announce the outstanding success of the SAOA Conference and Exhibition 2026, held at the prestigious Durban International Convention Centre (ICC) from 27 to 29 August 2026.
Under the inspiring theme, “A Whole New World, with 2030 in Sight,” the Conference brought together optometrists, dispensing opticians, academics, researchers, students, industry leaders and stakeholders from across South Africa and abroad to explore the future of eye care and the profession as we move towards the next decade.
More than 500 delegates attended the three-day event, making it one of the most significant gatherings of eye care professionals in the region. The Conference was complemented by a world-class exhibition featuring 74 exhibitors, showcasing the latest innovations in ophthalmic technology, diagnostic equipment, lenses, frames, practice management solutions and patient care advancements.
A particular highlight of the Conference was the exceptional academic programme, widely regarded as one of the strongest in the Association’s history. The programme comprised six dedicated educational tracks, delivering an impressive 131 scientific and educational sessions covering a broad spectrum of clinical, professional, business, ethics, and technological topics relevant to contemporary eye care.
The international profile of the event was further enhanced through the participation of 13 distinguished guest speakers from around the world, who shared global perspectives, cutting-edge research and emerging trends shaping the future of optometry and vision care. Their contributions enriched discussion and facilitated meaningful knowledge exchange between local and international experts.
Speaking on behalf of the Association, SAOA President, Nivien Subramany, expressed appreciation to the Education and Clinical Standards and Marketing Committees, speakers, exhibitors, sponsors, delegates, volunteers and staff whose collective efforts contributed to the success of the event.
