The first multidisciplinary conference focussing on dyslexia and other developmental disorders that involves occupational therapists, optometrists, psychologists, speech-and-language therapists; audiologists and remedial therapists, was held on the 6th & 7th of June in Cape Town at the Vineyard Hotel, and on the 8th & 9th of August in Sandton.
What a huge success both conferences were with 55 delegates in Cape Town and over 100 attending the Sandton conference. We had guests from Zambia, Zimbabwe, Namibia and even one from Dubai! All the provinces were represented and it was amazing to experience the harmony amongst the different professions, creating a better future for our children and assisting adults in the work environment that suffer from dyslexia, ADHD etc.

Topics that were discussed were:
- Diagnosing Dyslexia
- Therapy for Dyslexia
- Ethics in the Professional Practice
- Assistive Technology for the Dyslexic learner and adult
- Learning through play and the importance of play
- Accommodations and Concessions for the child with learning difficulties
Our conferences were aimed to invest in our delegates’ competencies and expertise in their field.
Exhibitors had lots to offer and assistive technology, natural supplements and perceptual tests were of the many items on display.
A professional company arranged the entire conference and the program was adhered to and the food was exquisite and the venues just perfect!
We only got positive feedback and a huge demand for another SGST conference next year.
